Apparently this release is limited to just 250 copies, so that probably means YOU CAN'T HAVE IT, and, because I'm in the mood I'm in, I FEEL SPECIALER THAN YOU. Too bad the packaging came a little unglued somewhere in transit. Anyway, there's three songs from Grumpy Bear and three from Boo Hiss. Grumpy Bear are sounding pretty fantastically Smog-esque in the opener, "Brittle Bride". The next song is a short sweet ditty called "In the Morning", and the malcontent Bear rounds off his contribution with a gentle Lou Barlow-ish song that has porno sounds (lots of sighing and "oh yeah" and half-heard bad dialogue) thrumming along in the background before a violent end—a minor piece of genius called "Church Mouse". In short, the three Grumpy Bear songs make me like them even more than I did when I first heard them on the "Songs from the Abattoir" CD.
Onto Boo Hiss. "Fertile Landscape" is a slowly building lament that reminds me at least a little of Colour Revolt. "Lawnmower" is 59 seconds of melodic mooing with an acoustic guitar, which is probably not exactly a helpful description. "Reborn (Song of the Soil)" is again in a slowed-down, one-man Colour Revolt vein. It's good stuff.
